What is UUFX?
UUFX is the category code which Underwriters Laboratories (UL) uses to describe the Central Station Service category for fire alarm systems.
Why is UUFX Important?
Being a UL Listed alarm contractor in this category means that the alarm company has been evaluated by UL for providing Cnetral Station Service in compliance with NFPA 72 (The National Fire Alarm and Signaling Code). Holding a UL Listing in this category allows teh Listed company to issue UL Certificates declaring compliance with these requirements.
Why Do You Need To Be Aware of UUFX?
Fire Marshals around the St. Louis area and across the US require that systems within their jurisdictions be covered by a UL Certificate. This program helps to reduce false alarms and provide Confidence to the AHJ that systems are properly maintained, serviced, tested, installed, and monitored per the supervising stations requirements found in NFPA 72. Having this type of program in place makes the communities a safer place to live and work. There may also be some insurance benefits for teh property owner holding a UL Certificate.
What are the Standards?
The standards used to determine compliance in this category are UL 827, UL 1981 and NFPA 72. The two UL standards (827 & 1981) are for the construction, equipment, and operation of the UL Listed monitoring facility. The rules for the system installation, testing, maintenance, signal monitoring, and retransmission, runner service and record keeping from NFPA 72.
