Located in the Springfield, Missouri area, the City of Battlefield is a small municipality named after its proximity to the Battle of Wilson’s Creek. As the city grew, its municipal building and police department faced increasing communication demands—but their aging phone system and shared workspaces made it difficult to operate efficiently and plan for the future.

Challenge
The city’s outdated voice system was no longer meeting the needs of its government staff, especially in a shared workspace environment where clear communication was critical. With long-term plans to eventually split departments into separate facilities, the existing phone infrastructure posed logistical challenges—not only for day-to-day use, but also for any future transitions.

The system’s softphone functionality enables seamless communication across physical locations, whether staff are working in the shared municipal building or eventually split into different facilities. Since Battlefield anticipated a move to separate facilities in the future, a cloud voice solution with softphone functionality seemed like a no-brainer fit. It will afford them a seamless transition when the time comes, as well as the flexibility to move devices easily between the two locations, if and when their needs change.

The call forwarding and direct dialing have really made everyone’s lives a lot simpler. There’s a lot less unnecessary ringing around the office, and it’s much simpler for people to reach who they’re trying to talk to at any given time, especially outside the office. ...
