Mitel Discontinues MiVoice Office 250 Phone System

By Steve Becnel, Voice Technology Director

Mitel announced earlier this year they are discontinuing service for their on-premises MiVoice Office 250 voice platform. As of June 30, the platform, formerly known as Mitel 5000 was designated as end of life.

This means Mitel is no longer offering new sales, hardware repairs or software support for the platform, and as of Jan. 1, 2027, Tech Electronics will be ending support as well.

This announcement encompasses all MiVoice Office 250 hardware and software components including the HX Controller, 85×8 Digital Phones, CT Gateway and the MiVoice Office Applications Suite with Phone Manager and Call Reporter.

Earlier this year, Tech also announced its new partnership with Unified Communications Provider Intermedia. The cloud-based platform offers improved features like contact center, and AI receptionist services along with desktop and mobile apps for increased flexibility.

Why Switch Now?

Without ongoing software updates, continuing to operate on an obsolete system presents security vulnerabilities. Without hardware support from Mitel, broken phones and system malfunctions can no longer be repaired.

Working proactively to replace your existing system allows for a seamless transition into a new, cloud-based platform without the stress of an emergency replacement.

With the phaseout of MiVoice services there are also reliability concerns and the potential for costly disruptions to your business.

Migrating prior to the deadline allows us to work with your schedule to establish a migration window that mitigates business disruption while opening new pathways for improvements like Micrsoft Teams integration.

Steps for Migration

First, contact your account manager for migration options and we can get to work building an inventory of your existing system to ensure a seamless transition.

With this information in hand, we can coordinate with carriers, port existing phone numbers and train your staff on the Intermedia platform.

Transitioning prior to the deadline may also qualify you for free Yealink phones and Poly headsets through our limited-time cloud promotion.

Intermedia

Intermedia’s Unified Communications Platform is a flexible, scalable system that can grow with your business. This new service allows for cloud-based calling without an on-site PBX, saving on hardware and maintenance costs.

The platform also offers a wide breadth of additional features including call recording, and built-in agentic AI that can operate as an assistant or receptionist.

Intermedia’s AI receptionist is currently in beta and once it’s launched, users will be able to establish rules allowing the agent to field calls, triage customer service to the relevant departments and answer frequently asked questions.

These features bring meaningful change to business processes, saving valuable man-hours so your people can focus on the work that really matters.

Cloud-based communications allow you to work where you are, either through a mobile device, desktop application or through Microsoft Teams integration.

For more information, contact your account manager to schedule a system health check and begin your journey into the cloud.
