OVERVIEW
St. Thomas Aquinas School was looking to update their current wireless network to accommodate the number of users and provide seamless connectivity

SOLUTION
Implement new network and wireless technology

OVERVIEW:

St. Thomas Aquinas School is a Catholic grade school located in Indianapolis. Part of the school’s academic vision is to provide a rich curriculum utilizing technology. At the time, their wireless solution had limitations on how many people could be on the network at the same time and could not support the recently implemented classroom tablets. After determining their wireless network was no longer providing adequate coverage to support their academic vision, St. Thomas Aquinas went in search of a solution that could would expand and strengthen their network. St. Thomas Aquinas partnered with Tech Electronics for a solution.

“The customer had a unique situation due to multiple additions and renovations to the original building over the years,” said Zach Watson, Project Manager for Tech Electronics of Indiana. “Because of this, the building has interior walls that used to be an exterior wall, creating issues when trying to implement wireless internet throughout the building.”

Through the E-rate program and the donation of nine access points, Tech Electronics designed and implemented a solution that would expand and strengthen St. Thomas Aquinas’ Network – despite the challenging environment.

SOLUTION:

By utilizing their team of IT experts, Tech Electronics was able to program the firewall and switches prior to the day of installation, which streamlined the installation. St. Thomas Aquinas now has a wireless network that was designed to provide seamless connectivity and an enhanced user experience throughout the entire school. St. Thomas Aquinas is running on the following technology:

  • Ruckus ICX Switches – to deliver performance, flexibility and scalability required for enterprise access deployment.
  • Ruckus Access Points – provide great user experience and connectivity for students and staff throughout the entire school
  • Sonicwall Firewall – to ensure network security, control and visibility
  • UPS – to provide backup battery power in the event of a power outage, monitoring and safeguarding equipment from harmful power conditions.
  • CAT6 wire – to support the new access points
